Restaurants Turn to Technology to Attract Millennials

According to research group Technomic Inc, restaurants that want to attract younger customers (millennials, born 1977 to 1992) should consider online menus. Nearly 60% of its survey respondents in that age group said they look up restaurant offerings online and 32% said they check menus using their phones. Just 17% of Gen X respondents and 8% of baby boomers said they do the same. Compared to older generations, more millennials follow their favorite eateries on social media and check in at restaurants using apps. Young patrons are also more interested in ethnic foods and alcoholic drinks. The millennial generation is a demographic to which the industry should pay special heed. 41% said they buy food away from home at least twice a week compared to 38% of Gen X and 37% of baby boomers.
